Have you got a young athlete in the family? Athletic performance is critical to development of a well rounded adult! The skill-set that is learned in a team environment, and the competitive edge that athletes develop over their non-athlete peers is undeniable. For young women as well as young men! According to the Harvard Business Review, more than half of the C-Level female executives in America played college level team sports! Less than 3% played no sports at all. Similar stats exist for men. Undeniably... Athletes become leaders! That leadership skill-set begins young. Fortunately, here in Florida, the access to high school level athletics is enormous. Our environment allows for year-round athletic seasons, and opportunity. But with opportunity comes a higher level of competition, and a lower level of individual attention from the coaching staff. Success on the playing field or court translates directly to success later in life, but success at the high school level is often limited by lack of access to superior skill training and conditioning. We at BURN Fitness can help!! My foundation in fitness is as a CSCS. A CSCS is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. My certification is the same training required to work as a strength coach at the college and professional level! My education centers around performance training, strength, speed, agility, and power. I've worked with everyone from 12-13 year old volleyball players, to professional golfers in their 30s, to competitive athletes into their 60s! The same basic conditioning concepts for football, apply for baseball, tennis, or any other sports. The same basics for "stick speed" translate directly from a baseball bat, to a golf club, to a hockey stick. They only differ in their plane of rotation. Lateral movement, acceleration, deceleration, agility and foot speed is universal. I train it all. Size and strength is critical in many sports. Some athletes have a great skill set, but are just a bit behind in strength and size for their position or level. I can help! The summer time is a great opportunity for your student athlete to JUMP forward in their abilities and come into next school year at a whole other level! The summer time is ALSO a great time for your young athlete to slack off, get into trouble, or fall further behind... You choose! At BURN Fitness we work with adults, looking to get leaner, healthier, and fitter... but we also work with male and female high school and college age clients too! Come talk to us BEFORE school lets out about your young athlete's summer program! - Jeff |
![]() The "Detox Diet" as a Abused Weight Loss Tool… First and foremost… quit wasting your money! “Detox” programs are 100% SCAMS. We hear about these all the time... Cleansing your liver, colon, blood, kidneys, etc, etc, etc. They are hawked all over the internet, every tabloid magazine, and by all the MLM companies (first clue it’s a scam)… I started to write an article of my own on this, and was looking for some back-up literature, and found this article (linked below). After reading it, I decided just to share the whole article, and save myself the typing time. It basically covers EVERY point I wanted to hit about the BS of detoxing... Except one... "Detox Diets"... are often used by people more for the latter effect; "Diet", than the “Detox” effect… to the point of abuse for weight loss. One of the “side effects” of many of these mythological detoxes is their rapid weight loss effect. The weight loss is of course NOT from burning fat, but is 99% dangerous levels of dehydration. Many of these detoxes utilize a laxative (either chemical or herbal) to induce diarrhea, ALONG WITH a diuretic, to force water elimination. The justification for this dangerous practice is of course the force fecal elimination (diarrhea) "cleans" the colon, while the diuretic effect "cleans" the kidneys (both bogus). Meanwhile the combination of a laxative and diuretic at the same time can cause SEVERE dehydration. Granted, these detoxes also call for a HIGH water intake... if you follow the directions correctly. Some people may not... If you do the detox, but don’t drink all that pesky water, you can lose a LOT of weight (YAY!), but it’s purely water loss! That loss of water puts you at risk for heat stroke, because your body cannot sweat to shed excess heat. The heat stroke causes serious damage in your brain. The thickening of your blood from dehydration can cause clots, heart attacks, stroke… or at a minimum do kidney damage to the sensitive “filters” in your kidneys due to the spike in blood pressure. Your muscles are also mostly water, so severe dehydration of course, shrinks your muscle! When the muscle is dehydrated, it cannot efficiently move glucose for energy, or amino acids for growth. Dehydration is also bad for your lean muscle mass! Bottom line… DON’T use a detox to “cleanse your system”, because they are based in garbage science (see attached), and just as important… DON’T use a detox as a weight loss tool! Severe dehydration is NOT fat-loss. Lisa and I are moving in the 2000's...
