Physical and mental aging are obviously not CURABLE conditions, but the process of aging can absolutely be SLOWED DOWN! Looking younger, feeling younger, and living younger are all great priorities all of us should strive for.
Decades ago, aging was just "accepted", and many people STILL seem to feel that way today. Just giving in to the process of aging, slowing down, getting weaker, fatter, fragile, susceptible... is the norm. "I'm just getting old." "It's normal for my age." "Back when I was younger"... We want to banish those words from your vocabulary. Some people are actually turning back the clock! Many people have slowed the hands of time to a crawl... and just seem to never really "age" as quickly as those around them! We want you to join those people... join US!
Lisa and I look and feel BETTER in our mid-forties than we did a decade ago! We want you to also!
So how do we do it??? Three steps...
1) EAT TO GET AS LEAN AS POSSIBLE TO STOP AGING.
It's not just body weight... It's body FAT that ages you. The fat physically stretches your skin and HANGS from gravity (muscle doesn't!), and the dead weight of the fat wears out your joints, puts HUGE stress on your heart and other organs, and ages you in MANY ways. Science has shown us that people who are lighter live longer. Reality is... it's people who are LEANER who live longer, and "skinny-fat" is not the answer. That is a scientifically indisputable fact. Just dropping 5-10% of your body's fat-weight can add a decade of life for many people! But it's not just life SPAN... it's the QUALITY of life that changes you. Being leaner gives you more agility, quickness, energy, flexibility, and mobility. "Working around your fat" adds a lot of stress to your life.
Muscle mass does NOT age the body. Muscle supports the joints, burns excess calories, and regulates healthy hormone levels. Carrying around an extra 10-20 pounds of muscle helps you live YOUNGER than your age, fills out your skin as your collagen levels drop, and gives you YOUTHFUL strength and power!
From an internal health perspective, excess body fat ABSOLUTELY leads to diabetes, heart disease, many cancers, reflux, gout, and the list goes ON and ON... All these factors put a huge stress load on your body... physically aging you.
Not to be forgotten, the confidence and esteem from being healthier, leaner, and fitter is a HUGE factor in aging. FEELING good about yourself drives many other healthier choices, better relationships, better career moves, and simply less STRESS... which is the biggest aging force of all.
2) STRENGTH TRAIN TO STOP AGING!
Yes... do your cardio too, as it helps your heart and lings stay strong... but strength training is EXTREMELY critical to fighting aging! A huge number of the symptoms of aging are DIRECTLY related to a decline in physical strength, from joint degeneration, to trip and fall injuries, to the physiological impacts of DEPENDENCE on others for simple tasks!
People who strength train regularly have MUCH healthier hormone profiles, not only muscle building hormones, but also insulin resistance, endorphin production in the brain, and STRESS hormone reductions... Regular exercise is likely one of the greatest anti-depressants and anti-anxiety treatments known to man. SO MANY people today are on psychotropic drugs... dispensed like candy for MANY conditions that could be MUCH better treated by simple daily exercise, including HEAVY weights!
Hit the gym, move some weight around... and REVERSE the clock!
3) MANAGE YOUR AGE-RELATED HORMONES!
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has gotten a bad reputation since it's inception, from over-blown and misinterpreted studies using tiny sample sizes, to outright falsifications by the pharmacological industry. Our most recent and comprehensive research has blown the vast majority of those early concerns away. Higher instances of heart attacks for men, FALSE. Higher rates of prostate cancer, FALSE. Higher risks for heart disease in women, FALSE. Sterility in men, FALSE... They've all simply be dis-proven with better studies, using better data, and with HUGE sample sizes. Slowing down aging... slows down the advancement of the diseases that kill us young.
We don't condone or suggest anyone abuse hormones (like a monstrous power-lifter or bodybuilder... male or female), but we DO suggest they look into OPTIMIZING their levels within medically supervised and safe ranges! The healthy hormone levels people had in their 20s and early 30s were NOT UNHEALTHY FOR THEM THEN!!! So why, at age 45, would they be unhealthy now??? The hormones you had at age 20 didn't make you huge... or blow up your heart... and neither will the treatments you receive at 45!!!
Many people who get checked out with their Primary Care Physician, fall well within "normal" ranges, and their primary care doctors push them AWAY from optimization... because their primary is NOT an expert, or even remotely knowledgeable about hormones or their effects on the aging process. It's like asking your cardiologists about your teeth! Primary Care docs are NOT trained to handle your anti-aging protocols. Anti-Aging Physicians ARE. Like any medications... proper doses can do wonders... and negligent treatment can mess you up!
